Structure first. Logic when you need it.
Sections hold questions, questions hold logic. Build the instrument you already trust — Ascent handles the scoring, branching, and validation underneath it.
Sections → questions → logic.
Three layers, built in order, each one refining the last.
Sections
An assessment is built from sections, and sections from questions. Reorder either with drag and drop, nest subsections for longer frameworks, and reuse a section across multiple assessments.
Questions
Each question carries its own type, scoring behavior, and validation rules. Mix types freely within a section — a slider next to a matrix grid next to a file upload.
Logic
Layer conditional logic, answer piping, and validation on top once the structure is in place, then preview the respondent experience before you publish.
One editor, every format you need.
Single choice
Radio-style pick-one, with per-option scoring.
Multiple choice
Pick-many with independent option weights.
Sliders
Continuous or stepped numeric scales.
Rankings
Drag-to-order preference or priority lists.
Matrix grids
Grouped statements scored against a shared scale.
Dropdowns
Compact single-select for long option lists.
NPS
0–10 promoter scoring with segment breakdowns.
Free text
Open response, scoreable by AI Interpret.
File upload
Evidence or document uploads, AI-reviewable.
Duration
Timed or elapsed-time capture for exams.
Logic that keeps every respondent on the right path.
Branch, pipe, and validate — all configured directly on the question, no separate rules engine to learn.
Conditional logic
Show or hide any question, subsection, or entire section based on a prior answer. Build branching paths so respondents only ever see what applies to them.
Answer piping
Carry an earlier answer — a name, a choice, a rating — into the wording of a later question, so the assessment reads like it was written for that one respondent.
Validation rules
Require answers, enforce numeric ranges and formats, and cap or floor slider and ranking inputs before a response can be submitted.
Every question feeds a score — your way.
Attach automated, networked, assessor, AI-interpretation, or calculated scoring to any question, then let scores roll up from answer to question, section, and overall — weighted however your framework requires. Combine models freely within a single assessment, or go deeper on the scoring engine.
